Letter to Mayor Frank Scott Jr.

Copy the letter below

Dear Mayor Frank Scott Jr.,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to express my wholehearted support for the city's ongoing efforts to close the loop on the Arkansas River Trail. As a resident of Little Rock who deeply values our city's natural beauty and recreational opportunities, I believe that completing this trail is a crucial step in enhancing our community's quality of life and promoting a healthier, more connected city.

“Closing the Loop” refers to making the section of the Arkansas River Trail between Gill Street (to the west) and North Street (to the east) a safe corridor for traveling by foot or bicycle. This section is currently unsafe with a too narrow sidewalk and multiple busy street and entrance crossings. It has not had a substantial upgrade to be considered a part of the Arkansas River Trail which opened over 20 years ago.

The Arkansas River Trail is undoubtedly one of our city's greatest assets, offering residents and visitors alike a unique opportunity to experience the beauty of the riverfront and surrounding natural areas. However, the current incomplete loop poses a significant obstacle to fully realizing the trail's potential. Closing the loop would not only provide a seamless pathway for walking, running, and cycling but also improve accessibility to the riverfront and create new opportunities for recreation, tourism, and economic development.

Moreover, completing the Arkansas River Trail loop is in line with our city's broader goals of promoting active transportation, environmental sustainability, and community connectivity. Encouraging residents to walk or bike along the trail not only reduces traffic congestion and carbon emissions but also promotes healthier, more active lifestyles. By investing in green infrastructure like the Arkansas River Trail, we demonstrate our commitment to building a more sustainable and resilient city for future generations.

Additionally, closing the loop on the trail presents opportunities for community engagement and collaboration. I believe that involving local stakeholders, including residents, businesses, advocacy groups, and government agencies, in the planning and decision-making process will ensure that the completed trail meets the diverse needs and interests of our community.

In conclusion, I urge you to continue your leadership and support for closing the loop on the Arkansas River Trail. By doing so, we can create a more accessible, connected, and vibrant city that benefits all residents.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter, and please do not hesitate to reach out if there is any way I can assist in advocating for the completion of the Arkansas River Trail loop.

Sincerely,
